My brother recently asked me to repair his Technics SL-Q2 that was suffering from a left channel no-audio issue. We both assumed it was probably a solder issue but upon inspection it turns out it was the left channel wire. I tried trimming some of the wire off at the end after I desoldered it (assuming the pinch point where the wire enters the case simply caused it to sever over time), but I still could not get continuity when testing with my multi-metre.

I felt pretty horrible ripping out the original factory installed phono cables, but it had to be done and after a few issues getting it back to gather, it seems to be working very well after testing it with Rachael’s Blur album. I hope I gave this thing another forty years of life.

Please enjoy these pics I took while I was repairing and enjoying the late 70s splendour of this audio artifact.
